Freepoint Commodities has hired former Enron and Centaurus Energy executive Jeff McMahon, as managing director responsible for principal investments, SparkSpread has learned.
He joined the commodities merchant in Houston within the past few days, and will be responsible for originating, underwriting and financing proprietary investments across the energy industry.
An official at Freepoint confirmed the appointment.
McMahon spent eight years at Centaurus Energy and latterly Centaurus Capital, an affiliated high-net-worth family office.
At Centaurus, he was senior portfolio manager responsible for managing a diversified portfolio of an investments, ranging for debt, equity and derivative securities to physical commodity and real estate assets.
McMahon began his career at Arthur Andersen and joined Enron in 1994.
He co-led the establishment of its London-based international operations as cfo of Enron Europe, before moving back to Houston as treasurer in 1998.
He was appointed Enron’s cfo in 2001, following the departure of finance chief Andy Fastow, and early the following year was named coo and president.
Following Enron’s collapse, McMahon was appointed chief investment officer of Springfiefld Financial Group and more recently president of Zilkha Biomass Energy.
