Mr. Hutchinson began his career in 2004 as a graduate at Sempra Energy Europe, before moving into an analyst role within the European power team in London, where he worked closely with trading desks to develop analytics and support decision-making. During this time, he gained broad exposure to European gas, power, and environmental markets, as well as other global fuel markets. Mr. Hutchinson subsequently transitioned to a broader fuels trading role, taking on increased commercial responsibility in 2007.
He led the fuels and dry bulk platform through the transition from Sempra to RBS Sempra and subsequently to J.P. Morgan, helping to build and expand an international physical and financial trading business. The platform focused on servicing customer requirements across Europe and Asia, structuring and executing long-term supply and offtake agreements, tolling arrangements, and complex physical and financial contracts with extended tenors.
Since joining Freepoint in 2014, Mr. Hutchinson has continued to lead the firm’s global fuels business while expanding the firm’s physical footprint into LNG. He now leads Freepoint’s EMEA business, overseeing a team of approximately 45 professionals trading physical and financial gas and power across Europe and the UK, as well as international fuels and LNG.
